Frost/Nixon

Simply amazing film. It was full of wit and intelligence. It kinda made me feel sorry for Nixon, as if he wasn’t a bad ould skin.

What’s the bet Bertie praying Ron Howard will do his next nearly-based-on-true-story about a young lad from Drumcondra who went on to lead a nation.

Michael Sheen was very good in it but Frank Langella was simply superb as Nixon.

Well worth a look.

I was thinking about going to see Valkyrie, but then I saw Tom Cruise on Jonathan Ross. He should stay away from chat shows. At least he didn’t jump on the couch.

It’s a good thing Stephen Fry was there or it would have been a complete waste of time.

Bodies The Exhibition

I went to see the Bodies exhibition yesterday. It was definitely interesting, and judging by the queues, popular. They have signs up saying that all the bodies are treated with the respect that they deserve. I hope when I die, I’m not posed playing tennis minus my skin, or as in the case of one individual, sliced into thin sections to show what an MRI scan sees.

Having said that, it was fascinating. Some of the exhibits, like the arteries and blood vessels were beautiful.

I think anyone who smokes should go just to see the comparison between a healthy pair of lungs and those of a smoker.

I wouldn’t bother with the audio guide (€4 extra) as it doesn’t offer more information than the display cards on each exhibit.

All-in-all, it was worth going to see.

Slumdog Millionaire

I went to see the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ last night. It was amazing. If you get the chance, go see it.

Can Danny Boyle make a bad movie?

Looks like a good year for movies this year.

Blackberry Storm in a teacup?

I got my hands on a Blackberry Storm today. There is a lot of hype about this touch-screen device from RIM. I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

Size wise, I thought it was a be clunky. It seems like it’s 2 or 3 times the thickness of an iphone.

There is no WiFi, for any device that has a browser this should be standard. in these days of the credit crunch you would think that companies would be trying to offer the best value for money. By not having wifi, not only is lacking in features, but it makes it more expensive to run. Instead of being able to jump on the net at any free hotspot available, the phone can only connect through 3G.

The touch screen is a much touted feature of the device. The entire screen is one big button. When the user touches the screen, the function touched is highlighted, but not activated until the screen is pressed. This is fine for certain functions, say opening an application, but it makes it awkward when typing. It would be nice if the ‘click’ feature could be turned on and off. Maybe it can, I didn’t have enough time to look at it.

The only applications that I saw on the Storm were the email client and the browser. Email is RIMs strong point, and the app worked fine. The browser, however was the same as usual. I was never a fan of the browser and installed opera on my Curve. The experience was a bit sluggish and I must admit I did miss multi-touch when using it.

This is supposed to be an iphone killer. Considering it is nearly two years since the iphone was first shown, this is like a step backwards. If this device was available two years ago, it would have been revolutionary.
